Exit Devices

Exit Devices (Panic Device) are used to secure openings while at the same time providing immediate egress in the case of an emergency. Model building codes require the use of an exit device on doors as a means of egress without special knowledge or training. A touchbar or crossbar extends at least half the width of the door and releases the latchbolt when pressed into the direction of egress. Because of their direct effect upon life safety, exit devices are one of the most important hardware items in a building.
