Padlocks
Padlocks are available in numerous shapes and sizes each one suited for a specific function. The basic components of a padlock consist of a case (or lock body), the shackle and a key to unlock the locking mechanism. In selecting the correct padlock, the shackle diameter and shackle opening must be the correct thickness and size to accommodate the intended fastener. Also, the material makeup of the padlock will determine its strength and durability.
Padlocks can be provided in a key retaining and non-key retaining functions. Key retaining padlocks capture the key in the lock while in the unlocked position. This helps avoid unnecessary key lose while the padlock is unlocked.
