After Richmond Alarm Company’s recent acquisition by Johnson Controls, residential customers who want to upgrade or need major service will be forced to find a new home security service provider. The good news is that Richmond Alarm’s customers should feel right at home here at Richmond Security since they’ll still be working with an original Boggs family member.
Corey Boggs, a 30-year veteran from Richmond Alarm Company, and grandson of Richmond Alarm founder Johnny Boggs is now serving as General Manager for Richmond Security. In this role, he and the entire Richmond Security team welcome Richmond Alarm customers.
Corey Boggs: a Richmond Alarm Company Veteran
Corey Boggs has been in the Electronic Security Industry all his life. Corey’s Grandfather, Johnny, started the Richmond Burglar Alarm Company in 1947. That company was renamed Richmond Alarm Company which grew into Central Virginia’s most respected security company.
After graduating from Virginia Tech, Corey joined the family business, Richmond Alarm, in 2000 as a Security Sales Consultant. In this role, he learned the value of hard work and relationship building.
In a couple of years, he moved into the Operations Department and was promoted to Operations Manager where he oversaw the installation and service departments of Richmond Alarm.
In 2010, Corey got his MBA from VCUn and by 2014n was promoted to General Manager of Richmond Alarm Company. In this role, Corey oversaw the whole operation of the company and was instrumental in the acquisition of several companies that increased Richmond Alarm’s footprint.
While General Manager, Corey became very active in both community and industry organizations. He served as a board member for the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce. Corey was also active in the Electronics Security Association (ESA), and the Electronic Security and Technology Association (ESTA). He served on the board of directors for ESTA and served several terms as ESTA’s president.
The History of Richmond Alarm
Richmond Alarm was consistently ranked in the top 50 Security Companies in the nation. Throughout the years, Corey’s father and uncle, Jimmy and Wayne Boggs built a strong reputation by being fair and honest with people and building a team that shared their core values by focusing on providing peace of mind to their customers.
Richmond Alarm grew to include offices in Lynchburg (Lynchburg Alarm) and Norfolk (Multra-Guard Security). One of the reasons that the Boggs’ had so much success was their foresight in the concept of monitoring services.
In the early 80s, Jimmy and Wayne opened their own monitoring center and branded it Security Alliance Command Center. Security Alliance remained a key piece of Richmond Alarm’s success for many years. Having a local UL Listed monitoring center was a rarity, but it gave the company a huge advantage in our market as Richmonders believe strongly in the Buy Local concept.
In 2016, The Boggs family made a very big decision. After nearly 80 years of serving and giving back to the community, they decided it was time to sell Richmond Alarm Company. The decision to sell was based on many market factors and opportunities that were available.
The transaction resulted in a new group of investors taking over Richmond Alarm while keeping the employees and customers at the forefront of their minds. Corey stayed on to make sure that the transition went smoothly and finally left to make his mark on another company in the Richmond area.
The Boggs Family Tradition Comes to Richmond Security
In 2019, Corey joined Richmond Security, Inc. (RSI), a Locksmith and Electronic Security company. RSI is owned by Stephen Wilkinson and was started in 1976. Corey came on board as the Electronic Security Manager. In this role, he was in charge of the Sales, Installation, and Service of Electronic Access Control, IP Camera Systems, Electronic Security, and Intercom Systems.
Corey was soon promoted to General Manager, a role that was created to bring the Locksmith and Electronic Security departments together. This transition has been very successful, and Richmond Security is on a growth path that is exceeding expectations.

Recently, Richmond Security has made a strategic decision to start a residential security division. The catalyst was Johnson Controls’ acquisition of Richmond Alarm and their decision to no longer support thousands of residential clients formerly serviced by Richmond Alarm Company.
